Baby J is 12 Months Old

baby 12 month update

How big? Last month Baby J celebrated his first birthday, and he weighed in at 22lb 3oz. He’s about 78cm, though it’s hard to say exactly as he won’t lie still for long enough for me to measure his height, nor will he do it standing up! He’s wearing size 12-18 month in clothes and is size 4G in shoes.

Eating? He still loves his food and is still eating healthy things, although he had his first sweet treat with some birthday cake, and the nurse gave him a chocolate button when I went for my flu jab! He can use a spoon fairly well now and is making good progress with using his fork.

Breastfeeding? J has definitely dropped some feeds now, most noticeably the morning one. It took me some time to get used to especially as I can no longer donate to the milk bank. I had a week or so of oversupply issues whilst adjusting but it has settled down now. He now has a feed at naptime, bedtime and if he wakes in the night.

Sleeping? J likes to go to bed by 7pm at the latest; any later than this and he gets really grizzly and overtired. He sleeps fairly well until about 7-8am, usually waking once in the night for a quick feed around 1am. He likes a short nap mid-morning and again mid-afternoon.

Milestones?
  • Waving hello and goodbye
  • Pointing, especially when it’s something he wants
  • Clapping, both to music or when he is happy about something
  • He has tooth number 5 and 6 cutting through
  • Says mama and dada in context
  • Walking! He took first steps just before he turned 11 months and has been walking properly since about a week after he turned 11 months

Me? I’m still struggling to find the balance between being a mother and housewife, and finding time to be me. I find it really difficult as the days are full-on from the moment I wake until I go to bed. Even in those rare moments when I have 5 minutes to myself, I can’t relax as I’m not used to it. I want to find an evening course of some sort, something to get me out of the house and force me to think about something other than family life. I’ve been thinking about doing a photography course perhaps, as I love taking photos but have to admit I barely know how to work my camera!

  1. Hey! Nice to see that your baby is growing so well!
The balance of mom & housewife is hard. Some days are good for me and some days are all over the place.

Good luck to you, you're doing great. Have a good week.

  3. Oh it's so hard to get any time to yourself isn't it?! An evening course is a great idea though xx
