I haven’t done an Empties post in a few months. I moved house in April so didn’t do one that month, then last month I barely used anything up so just waited until this month to post all together!

June Empties

E45 Nourish & Restore Body Lotion – I did a full review of this body lotion here. I was torn because whilst it felt nice on my skin the main ingredient is mineral oil. I probably won’t buy it again to be honest.

nspa Passionfruit Shower & Bath Gel – I got this from a friend for Christmas, it smells so fresh and fruity, I enjoyed using this in my morning showers as it really wakes you up!

Naked Smooth Silky Shampoo and Naked Smooth Silky Conditioner – I discovered this brand after someone bought some products from their baby range for Baby N. I liked the shampoo and conditioner at first but after a while it felt like I was getting build up so I switched again.

Kipos Tonic Lotion – I have just noticed that there is a spelling error on the bottle “sooting” instead of “soothing”! I’m quite lazy about using toners and this didn’t feel like it did anything amazing.

Garnier Moisture Match samples – Not one of these moisturisers was any good for my skin! All three of them left my skin feeling clogged and sticky. Not. Impressed. At. All.

Yon-Ka Pamplemousse Protective and Vitalizing Face Cream – I really liked this moisturiser. It is the second tube I have used and I still love it. It’s expensive though. If I can afford it I’ll get it again.

Elemis Skin Nourishing Milk Bath – This is so nice! It doesn’t create bubbles or anything fancy like that, it simply turns the bath milky and has a light floral scent. A lovely relaxing treat!

Soap & Glory Clean On Me Shower Gel – I’m sick of the smell of Soap & Glory. I need a break I think!

L’Occitane Verbena Shower Gel – This came in a giftset I was given after having Baby N. It’s one of my favourite L’Occitane ranges, it’s so zingy and refreshing.

Doctor Duve Lifting & Firming Hand & Decollete Cream – I got these two sachets in the December Joliebox. Yes they were nice but OH MY GOD have you seen the price of this stuff! I think it’s safe to say I won’t be buying it.

This week is National Breastfeeding Week, a week-long campaign that has been running every year for 17 years to “raise awareness of the health benefits of breastfeeding, increase social acceptance of breastfeeding and promote support for breastfeeding”. I think it’s a great campaign; I’m pretty sure most mothers know of the health benefits for both them and their babies but social acceptance and support are areas that still need improving.

I breastfeed Baby N, who is now 7.5 months old, and have done since he was 5 days old. Friends tell me how easy I make it look, how naturally I seem to have got the hang of it, how discreet I am. It is easy, it is natural and I can be discreet about it. It wasn’t always like that though; as I just mentioned, I’ve been breastfeeding Baby N since he was 5 days old. Before that he just couldn’t, or wouldn’t, latch on. He had a difficult birth and was in SCBU for a short while. I was in a pretty bad way and didn’t see him for 24 hours after the birth.

Porridge is my current favourite thing to have for breakfast. It gives me enough energy to keep my going until lunch, sometimes later if Baby N is keeping me really busy, and oats are reportedly great for increasing breast milk supplies. When I got an email from Graze, the company that send you little snacks through the post, inviting me to try out their new Breakfast Box for free of course I said yes!

graze box snacks breakfast porridgegraze box breakfast snacks porridge

The Graze Breakfast Box contains four days’ worth of porridge. I got Coconut & Date which also has yogurt coated seeds, Blackcurrant & Cranberry which has honey, Apple & Cinnamon which has honey, and Blueberry & Lingonberry. The box comes with instructions on how to cook the porridge in a microwave, which looks super easy, but I don’t have a microwave so I just cooked mine on the hob.

Coconut & Date was my favourite closely followed by Blueberry & Lingonberry. The portions were slightly too small for me so I have to admit I added some of my usual oats as well; I’m a hungry girl! It’s an expensive way to have breakfast but it makes a nice change from my usual plain porridge. It’s inspired me to get some coconut flakes to jazz mine up a little!

The Graze Breakfast Box will set you back £3.89 including delivery but you can get a free box by using my referral code, ZC44XD6, or by clicking this link http://www.graze.com/uk/p/ZC44XD6.

Let me know if you try it and what you think!

I noticed that I had 200 Birchbox points sitting in my account, equal to £20, so I had a little look on their online shop to see if there was anything I wanted…

birchbox points natio facial oil korres guava lip butter

I chose Natio Ageless Organic Rosehip Oil which is £13.60 and Korres Guava Lip Butter Pot which is £7.00. You all know by now that I LOVE face oils and I’ve wanted to try the lip butter for ages! Shipping cost £2.95 but by using my points I only ended up paying £3.55 in total and Birchbox included a sample of Molton Brown Valbonne which I gave to my fiancé (it smells better on him).

Reviews will follow soon, of course! In the meantime if you want to try Birchbox here's my referral link http://birchbox.co.uk/?raf=674!

In my post about the Daily Facial Skincare products I use I mentioned a couple of facial oils that I use each day as part of my skincare regime. The oil I use in the morning is Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Oil.

Neal's Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Oil

This gorgeous facial oil contains a plethora of nourishing oils: macadamia seed, baobab seed, apricot kernel, castor seed, evening primrose, hemp, grape seed, frankincense, mandarin peel, bergamot peel, myrrh, turmeric root and sunflower seed!

It has a really spicy scent which really helps wake your skin up first thing in the morning. After cleansing (and toning if I can be bothered) I massage 3 or 4 drops of this oil into my skin. I then wait a few minutes and follow with my usual moisturiser.

The oil itself is so nourishing that there have been a couple of occasions that I have forgotten to apply my moisturiser and not realised! I’ve literally applied make-up and gone about my day, then it’s occurred to me hours later that I forgot to moisturise!

A 30ml bottle of Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Oil costs £26.75 and I get through about a quarter of the bottle per month, so it lasts ages and is good value for money.

Have you tried this facial oil? Or do you use serum? Or just moisturiser?

The June beauty box from Birchbox arrived today. I had a slight panic when I checked the tracking this morning and it said that my box had been delivered and signed for by a name I didn’t recognise. It turned out that the wrong tracking number was on my dispatch email. Phew! This month Birchbox has had a bit of a makeover with a new logo, new colours and a different bag inside the box.

June Birchbox beauty box contents

Festival Chic is the theme of the June beauty box from Birchbox; here’s what I got in mine:

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle Leave in Conditioner – This smells amazing and I can’t wait to try it! It doesn’t have a list of ingredients so no idea what is making it smell so good but it does say that it’s an instant detangler that protects from UV and heat, adds shine and smoothes the hair. The bottle doesn’t say how much product it contains, I’d guess around 15-25ml.

Color Club + Birchbox Wanderlust Collection Nail Polish – The Wanderlust Collection features 4 nail polishes that are exclusive to Birchbox, each one inspired by the locations of the Birchbox global offices. You can buy the complete set from the Birchbox website. My box contained 2 of the polishes: Mod in Manhattan, a bright calico colour, and London Calling, a pastel mint green. The latter was in a little package with a note suggesting to give it to a friend and details of how to win 100 Color Club polishes. Both of these nail polishes are 7ml.

Green People Sun Lotion SPF15 – I love Green People. Their products are free from nasties, not tested on animals and they donate 10% of profits to charity. I just hope we get some decent enough weather soon so that I can actually try this out! It’s a 20ml tube.

ModelCo Eye Define Eye Pencil – I received a black eye pencil. It says that it stays soft and creamy for about 30 seconds to allow for blending before settling to a smudge-proof finish. It sounds great! It also has an in-built sharpener which is so handy because I can never find mine when I need it! 1.2g.

Carole Franck Fluide Fraicheur Phyto Moisturizer – I really like getting moisturisers in my beauty box because I’m so fickle and love trying out new ones. It says this is lightweight and non-greasy so sounds ideal for the summer months. It’s a 10ml bottle.

I love this month’s box contents, I’m not going to any festivals this year but if I was these products would be perfect for taking with me. They’re perfect even for staying home all summer!

If you like the look of the Birchbox beauty box and want to sign up, please feel free to use my referral link: http://birchbox.co.uk/?raf=674. The box costs £10 per month plus p+p.

…since I last had a gin & tonic. It might be longer, I’m not sure, but it’s definitely been at least 15 months. I found out I was pregnant at the end of February 2012 and immediately stopped drinking my favourite little tipple.

I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding Baby N who is now 7 months; he started having solid food last month but his milks feeds are still pure mama milk *high fives self* (if you read my post about what happened after his birth then you’ll know this hasn’t been easy). So I carried on with my abstinence from alcohol, except for the odd sip of The Mister’s beer now and then and a total of about a glass and a half of champagne during this whole time.

On Sunday The Mister, Baby N and I went to The Croft in Hitchin for some lunch. I had a massive craving for a gin & tonic. Baby N had had his milk before we left home so I knew that I would have time to metabolise the alcohol and figured if I interspersed sips with water then I would be fine. I knew from reading on Kellymom that having 1-2 alcoholic drinks occasionally wouldn’t harm my baby. So I ordered one. Hendricks gin, Fever-Tree tonic, ice and cucumber. Oh, it was good.

hendricks fever tree gin tonic

Pre-baby I used to drink a lot, socially I mean. I have lost some friends since becoming a mama because it turns out that all we had in common was getting drunk and acting daft. One of my best friends still hasn’t met Baby N, we didn’t even get so much as a ‘congratulations’ card. It’s sad, but to be honest I didn’t expect anything different. I thought I would miss my social life but I have a different social life now. I have new friends – fellow mamas! – but with my old, REAL friends we just do different things together now. In fact, that’s a lie, we don’t do different things at all. We do the same things, we just don’t do the alcohol-related things.

I love my life as a mama, our breastfeeding journey is nowhere near ending and feeding my baby is more important to me than getting hammered. So, as lovely as that G&T was, it’s probably going to be a long time before I have another!
