Pregnancy Diary: Third Trimester - 32 Weeks

10th February 2017

At 32 weeks pregnant my little Pip is about the size of a honeydew melon. She (yes, it's a girl!) is nearly 18 inches long and weighs around 4lbs now. Here's what's been going on during my 32nd week of pregnancy with baby number three.

Baby Development

Pip is growing hair and busy trying to get into the right position for birth. Her skin is filling out as she puts on more fat and she has a full set of fingernails and toenails already. I remember when Noah was born he had one really long thumbnail which the midwife had to cut off! Well, actually I don't remember, I was out of it and told about it later, but you know what I mean!

Body Changes

I feel like my face has filled out a lot recently, perhaps I am retaining some water but I definitely look a bit plumper. My skin is really clear at the moment though so I really can't complain. Apart from the dark eye circles, I can complain about those!

Pregnancy Symptoms

The Braxton Hicks are continuing, mostly in the evening and when I go to bed. They seem to coincide with when the baby is awake and most active. I've been feeling really exhausted and it has felt like the symptoms of anaemia; my midwife said my iron levels were fine but I asked for a second opinion from a GP who said I needed to go onto supplements so I will have them until I deliver the baby.

Antenatal Appointments

I saw the midwife at 31+4. She checked my blood pressure, fundal height, urine, baby's position and baby's heartbeat. Everything was perfect and the baby is head down, though not at all engaged. I also had a 32 week scan to see if the placenta has moved away enough from my cervix to allow for a vaginal birth but it hasn't, so I will be rescanned at 36 weeks.

Looking Ahead

A lot of the mums in my "due in" Facebook group are starting to get their hospital bags packed in preparation. I've not sorted mine yet as I will either be having a c-section if my placenta hasn't moved or a home birth if it has, so what I need to pack will really vary! I have a pre-packed hospital bag from Little Bambino Bags which I will just remove and add bits to when I know for sure what's happening.

  1. You look great in your photo! I remember retaining so much water towards the end of my pregnancy. Right after I gave birth I sweat it all off and almost didn't recognize my own legs as I lost all the water almost immediately. Congrats on a girl! #twinklytuesday
