REVIEW: The Holistic Kitchen

The Holistic Kitchen is the creation of Sallyanne, who handcrafts gorgeous bespoke essential oil blends and holistic products using natural, raw ingredients. Using knowledge and expertise from her work as a massage therapist, she began creating her own household and skincare products after her son got eczema. The Holistic Kitchen was born and has grown since then, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on three beautiful products from the range: Lavender & Orange Lip Balm*, Calm My Mind Roller Blend* and Balance & Restore Facial Oil*.

CALM MY MIND ROLLER BLEND

Did you know that when essential oils are applied to the skin, they reach part of the brain that controls moods and emotions? And if you smell essential oils straight from the bottle it reaches the brain quicker than any other way?

Sallyanne asked me to pick a word or two to describe my mood so that she could create a custom blend roller ball for me using 100% organic essential oils. I’m pretty sure the word I picked was ‘stress’ – we talked about how I was struggling with tiredness and how that was making me irritable and impatient. I wanted something that would make me feel calm, so Sallyanne created her ‘Calm My Mind’ oil blend.

Calm My Mind contains Geranium to balance the mind, emotions and hormones, Orange to create feelings of happiness and warmth, Frankincense to create inner and Bergamot to uplift the mind creating happy and relaxed feelings. When I’m feeling overwhelmed or stressed out, I simply roll the oil onto wrists and breathe it in.

My days are really hectic and busy, what with my children to look after, my voluntary work and my blog to run. So simply taking a moment or two out of my day to gather my thoughts and breathe in the gorgeous, soothing scent of the oils helps me to slow down and calm down, and helps me to refocus on the rest of my day.

LAVENDER & ORANGE LIP BALM

My lips, along with my hands, really suffer with dryness and I always have to use a lip balm. I have lip balms every where! The Holistic Kitchen’’s Lavender & Orange Lip Balm is jam packed full of nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, almond oil, beeswax, vitamin E and, wonder ingredient, coconut oil.

It glides on like a dream leaving my lips feeling softer and it has helped to heal the chapped areas. It’s a very lightweight lip balm and works perfectly under lipstick. The subtle scent of the lavender and orange is soothing, too.

BALANCE & RESTORE FACIAL OIL

Sallyanne asked me to describe my skin type to her so that she could create a custom blend especially to suit my needs. My skin type is normal/combination, however I’d been suffering with hormonal breakouts since Baby J turned 6 months old so asked if she could blend something that would help calm my skin and make me feel a bit better about myself. Long-term readers of my blog will know how much I love using facial oils, so I was very excited to try this one.

Balance & Restore contains antiseptic lavender to calm and heal the skin, bergamot which is good for oiliness, antiseptic tea tree oil, Roman chamomile to calm, ylang ylang and jojoba oil to balance and regulate sebum production, and geranium and vitamin E to promote healing. This oil blend is really packed with a powerhouse of amazing ingredients and, oh my god, it smells so good! It is such a calming and grounding scent.

The bottle has a dropper in the lid and I use a few drops of the oil each evening. It’s such a light oil yet so nourishing; I often don’t feel the need to apply any moisturiser if I’ve used it. I’ve been using it nightly for the last month or so, and my skin has gradually started to look more balance and less like a teenager’s. This has hugely helped my confidence – struggling with my post-pregnancy shape, post-birth hair loss and spotty skin has not been ideal, but I’m slowly starting to get back to me.

The Holistic Kitchen’s products are simply divine. They are full of incredibly nourishing and fantastic quality ingredients, and I also really love how they are packaged. The blue glass bottles with the brown card tags on string gives them a vintage apothecary look which I absolutely adore, so they are proudly on display in my bathroom!

Sallyanne is so skilled at creating the perfect blend to suit an individual’s needs – as well as handcrafting these oils for me I recently asked Sallyanne to create a bespoke roller blend to send to a friend of mine and what she came up with was perfect, my friend loved it.
