Mini Style: Powell Craft Nautical Rain Coat

Brrr, hasn’t the weather suddenly turned chillier? Long gone are the balmy days with the boys running around in the garden wearing sleeveless rompers and linen shorts; the t-shirts and sandals have been packed away in favour of chunky knits and soft trousers; and now you won’t see us anywhere without a coat and a hat on. J’s new coat for this winter is this gorgeous nautical rain coat* from Powell Craft.

Powell Craft is a family-run business specialising in baby and children's wear in beautifully vibrant prints and fabrics. Established in 1962 the brand is famous for its vintage-inspired prints and fabrics, particularly their gorgeous nightwear and rain macs. The collection now also includes bedding, nursery accessories and soft toys which can all be found on their new website.

The new Powell Craft collection for Autumn/Winter 2015 features a range of corduroy dresses, dungarees, skirts, trousers and coats, in bright colours with adorable appliqué designs. They have also created a range of rain coats that are available in several different prints, from cars to robots, ponies to dollies, floral to nautical. There are so many to choose from and there is a print to suit all tastes and styles.

J’s rain coat is the nautical print, which has sweet little boats, light houses, steering wheels, anchors and seagulls in shades of red and blue on white PVC. I adore anything with a nautical theme and fell in love with this as soon as it arrived! Inside the rain coat there is navy soft cotton towelling which keeps him cosy and warm, and it has darling little navy popper fastenings to match. There are two little pockets with flaps on either side and a lovely roomy hood. I don’t think my children have particularly large heads, but we often struggle with hoods that are too small, so this was worth mentioning!

The rain coats come in sizes 1-2 years, 2-3 years, 4-5 years and 6-7 years. J’s coat is size 1-2. as he has just turned one. It fits him so well, with just the cuffs of the sleeves turned up for now which actually I think adds to how cute this coat is. It has plenty of room for him to grow and I can see that it is going to fit him well as he gets bigger.

The coat is completely machine washable which is a must for this time of year. Despite trips to the park and the farm this week I haven’t needed to wash it yet though, as thanks to the PVC outer any mud or food spillages can just be wiped clean. It is a beautiful and durable coat that is going to get a lot of love and a lot of wear this autumn and winter, and probably well into spring knowing our weather! The nautical rain coat costs £34.00 and can be found on the Powell Craft website here.

  3. That is such a lovely jacket! My kids do have large heads so good to know the hood is roomy. I would be a little bit nervous about putting my kids in a white jacket but I do like the sound of the wipe clean material!

  18. Awww, that raincoat is adorable! I love the nautical theme, too. Having the sleeves rolled up does add cuteness. I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds hoods often too small. This one looks perfect though.
I really miss my children being so small. xx

  23. I am not a mum but I adore these pictures of your little boy. I think this rain coat and the nautical theme of it really screams boys coat to me lol. I love that it is bright sky blue in contrast to the dark blue inside the coat. I think it is a great idea that they put a soft lining inside the coat. It is important to keep the little children warm while they cause mischief lol. Great review!
