Mini Style: Introducing babyzoo

Last week I had the pleasure of receiving one of the most gorgeous items of children’s clothing ever. This delightful long-sleeved top* arrived from babyzoo, a fresh new brand of children’s clothing individually designed and created in Brighton for parents who want to dress their children in fun, bright, ethically sourced clothes.

babyzoo is the creation of designer Karen Thacker, whose photos caught my eye on Instagram – if you’re not following, you should! Launching just this week babyzoo’s beautiful debut collection features brightly coloured animal designs on soft black and white cotton. Every piece in the collection has been carefully printed by hand adding an element of uniqueness and making them one of a kind.

The first collection features a variety of animals that have naturally unusual and contrasting colouring, such as penguins, zebras, and giraffes. They are all printed in bright, bold colours which stand out against the black and white base of each piece and adds a sensory element for babies.

The prints have been designed to have a photographic look and J’s top (£12.00) features two gorgeous giraffes in bright green and blue ombre effect which is really quite striking. The fit is perfect and the fabric is buttery soft. I absolutely love it, it is like a work of art. I’m almost too afraid to let him wear it in case it gets ruined, but babyzoo have designed their collection to be practical as well as beautiful.

The fabric and dyes used for the babyzoo range have been carefully chosen for little ones. Each item is made with 100% cotton which is breathable and soft against young skin. My eldest son has quite sensitive skin so I am very conscious of what my children’s clothes are made from.

The dyes used to create the unique prints have been especially selected as they are water-based and free from any toxins. Not only is this better for babies and young children’s skin, it also means that the prints bind to the fibres of the cotton so that the clothing will withstand all of the wearing, playing and washing. Even the care labels have been hand printed so that there is absolutely nothing to irritate or scratch delicate skin and also means less waste is created during the production process. I think this is such a clever idea!

babyzoo’s debut collection, which is on sale now exclusively at babyzoouk.etsy.com, includes button under tops - like ours - for ages 0-2, t-shirts for ages 2-4 and thin layering hoodies for ages 0-4. They are fantastic choices for your own children, or as a gift for someone else. They’d make a particularly great baby shower gift as the clothes are all gender neutral, perfect for a “team yellow” bump!

To celebrate the launch of babyzoo, you can get 10% off until this Friday with the code LAUNCHPARTY – so, what are you waiting for!

Which animal print do you think babyzoo should add to the collection?
