Pregnancy Diary: Second Trimester - 19 Weeks

11th November 2016

At 19 weeks pregnant my little Pip is about the size of a courgette! She (yes, it's a girl!) is roughly 6 inches long and weighs about 8.5 ounces. I'm really feeling the strain of my changing shape now. Here's what's been going on during my nineteenth week of pregnancy with baby number three.

Baby Development

Pip is developing vernix on her skin, which is the waxy coating that protects her from the amniotic fluid and will also help her down the birth canal when the time comes. She's starting to grow hair now, though my babies so far haven't been born with much hair at all so we shall see how much she is actually born with! Her coordination is getting better as her brain continues to develop giving her greater control over her arms and legs - and don't I know about it with all these kicks I am feeling!

Body Changes

My bump is starting to grow at a startlingly fast rate now and my skin is feeling rather itchy with is a sign that it is having to stretch! I have noticed the linea nigra appearing on my tummy, though it is quite faint so far. My skin is really clear at the moment, too.

Pregnancy Symptoms

Much like last week I am still obsessed with spring greens and satsumas, I can't get enough satsumas! I am getting a lot of pain in my right hip which is made worse at night by the fact that our mattress has been in need of replacement for over three years. It's one of those things I keep asking Ian about but he takes forever, literally, to get around to anything. Some days it makes me walk a bit funny!

Antenatal Appointments

Again it's been a quiet week for appointments, nothing this week! I will have my anomoly scan next week though which is exciting. It will be lovely to see baby again and see how she is growing, and of course make sure that all is okay. Little N will be at school, but J will come with us which will be nice.

Looking Ahead

I have been having a good clear out of the boys' old toys and clothes to try to make space and also save my sanity as there is just so much. I spend hours every day cleaning up after them, my stepchildren and Ian. I literally do 99.9% of the housework here which is not easy when you have two small children and work to juggle, let alone pregnancy. The less stuff there is in the house for me to clean and tidy, the better! I'm excited to start getting clothes and things for this baby, which I think I will start buying after Christmas.
