Pregnancy Diary: Second Trimester - 26 Weeks

30th December 2016

At 26 weeks pregnant my little Pip is about the size of a butternut squash - which is huge! She (yes, it's a girl!) is over 14 inches long and weighs about 2lbs. Here's what's been going on during my 26th week of pregnancy with baby number three.

Baby Development

During this week Pip is piling on the fat to keep her warm when she no longer has me to regulate her temperature for her. Her eyes are starting to open and she will become responsive to light. Most of her body's systems and functions are in place and now she just needs to grow in height and weight.

Body Changes

I mentioned in my last pregnancy diary post that I thought that J might stop breastfeeding soon, as it was becoming more difficult with my milk changing to colostrum. As predicted, he has weaned and had his last feed on Christmas Day. I'm a bit sad but at the same time relieved, as J was getting impatient and I was started to get annoyed by it due to my nipples becoming more sensitive. Other than a growing bump (it is a struggle to bend down now) I haven't noticed any other changes.

Pregnancy Symptoms

I started taking Spatone last week to see if it would help me feel less tired and sluggish and it has helped a little, so I am going to keep taking it throughout the rest of the pregnancy. Most of my symptoms at the moment are me feeling very uncomfortable! The top of my bump feels like it is being ripped open, I am getting the most awful cramps in my legs which wake me up at night and I just can't get comfortable in any position. Oh and I am still getting lots of Braxton Hicks.

Antenatal Appointments

I don't have any appointments now until 28 weeks. It feels quite long between appointments, but the time is actually flying by.

Looking Ahead

I have been buying a few items of baby clothes with the sales being on everywhere. There isn't much that takes my fancy but I have found a few nice things, and it is made all the sweeter by being half price! I really need to start making a list of all the things I will need. You'd think with it being my third baby I'd know how many vests, sleepsuits, blankets, etc. I need, but I feel as clueless as a first time mum!
