I bought quite a few skincare goodies recently, plus a new foundation. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Revlon Nearly Naked foundation that I bought last time, but my friend says Revlon PhotoReady foundation (£12.99) is amazing so I picked up a bottle of that instead. I got the right shade this time which helps of course!
Origins Drink Up Intensive overnight face mask (£22.00) is one I see raved about time and time again, and every time I see it mentioned I always say I’ll try it out then manage to forget. I can’t wait to find out if it as wonderful as everyone says!
Whilst this looks like quite a lot of ESPA purchases, I only actually bought the ESPA Pink Hair and Scalp Mud (£18.00) and the ESPA 24-Hour Balancing Moisturiser. The rest were free samples! The samples include the Refining Skin Polish (which I love!), the Super Active Skin Radiance Moisturiser, the Super Active Skin Radiance Mask and the 24-Hour Replenishing Moisturiser. The Pink Hair and Scalp Mud is another product that a lot of people seem to love so I’m looking forward to trying it out.

Tonight as I lay cuddling Little N at bedtime I started to think about how much I have read, talked and heard about sleep since he was born. As a parent you constantly get asked how your baby sleeps, are they a good baby, do they sleep through the night.
Those of you that have read my birth story and beyond, will know that apart from maybe an hour together, we were separated for over 24 hours. N was in SBCU while I was on the floor above in transitional care. I then got to see him every 3 hours and seemingly in between, he slept. Once we finally came home, this 3 hourly routine soon lapsed as N decided on his own routine. He wanted to be fed more frequently, he wanted to be held and cuddled while he slept, and as he was suffering from reflux being held upright was much more comfortable for him. None of this was a problem for me, I wanted to hold him, I wanted him in my arms.
It seemed to be a problem for others though; when N was 2 weeks old my family were visiting and he fell asleep in my arms. I carried on chatting away while he snoozed peacefully, only to be interrupted by my nan asking me if I was going to put him down.
“Oh no,” I said, “he’ll wake if I try, besides, I love the cuddles.” I was happy and N was happy, so what was the problem?
“You’re making a rod for your back, you’ll never be able to put him down and he’ll end up being clingy,” said my nan.
A few days later my in-laws visited; N was crying so I was doing laps around the living room in an effort to settle him.
“In my day if they were fed, clean and dry, we just left them to cry,” said my mother-in-law. Seeds of doubt about my methods of comforting Baby N were starting to be planted in my mind.
Like a lot of mums these days, I was part of a Facebook group of mums that were all due in the same month as me. When our babies started to reach 8 weeks old, most of my group were talking about their bedtime routines. They would follow the same routine every night and put their babies to bed at 7pm sharp. As I was breastfeeding on demand, I couldn’t see how a strict routine like this would work but because everyone else was doing it I started to feel like I should be doing it too. Their babies were sleeping from 7pm-7am with few wake-ups, one baby was even sleeping all the way through. Shouldn’t my baby be doing that too?
For 7 days in a row I tried bathing N, feeding him, reading him a story and then putting him to bed at 7pm. The bath seemed to wake him up. He was never hungry afterwards. He cried while I read the stories and THEN he would want his milk. He would fall asleep in my arms, only to immediately wake up as I tried to transfer him to his moses basket. He would then cry and cry and cry until I picked him up. I would cuddle him back to sleep again, try to transfer him to his moses basket, only for him to wake crying. It was horrible and stressful, he wasn’t happy, I wasn’t happy. After a week, I gave up with the idea of a “bedtime routine”.
Instead, N would chill out in the living room with us until I was ready for bed and then we would go to bed together. He would sleep in his own bed for an hour or two before waking for a feed, but then didn’t want to go back to his own bed. After several nights of pulling my hair out, my fiancĂ© said, “he wants you, let him sleep with you.” I brought him into bed with me and had the best night’s sleep ever. Over time N was happy to go to bed earlier, around 7pm, and I would snuggle in a few hours later. N was happy, I was happy.
When N got to about 9 months old, he started to crawl and I was worried that he might crawl off the bed. I’m also quite a restless sleeper and I realised that I was causing him to wake up. I decided to start putting him to sleep in his cot at the start of the night and bringing him into my bed if he later woke. The problem was that N was used to being cuddled and nursed to sleep, and I couldn’t do this through the bars, so I started getting into N’s cot with him.
For the first couple of months N would wake up after an hour or so and need resettling so I would get back into his cot and cuddle him back to sleep. Friends found this highly amusing and other mums thought I was bonkers. They were all putting their babies in their cots while they were still awake and then leaving the room, even if their babies were crying. Many had decided to do sleep-training, while I was the odd one out, only taking my baby to bed when he showed he was tired, and staying with him until he fell asleep.
A lot of people think I am crazy to go to all this effort, that I should put him to bed and let him go to sleep himself, even if it means he cries himself to sleep. “Let him self-soothe,” they say. I don’t see any of this as an effort though. We are both happy, content and stress-free. My son isn’t a robot, our babies are all different, there is no one-size-fits-all method to parenting so trying to do what everyone else was doing was just silly. I read up on the biology and physiology behind babies’ sleep and accepted that he needed me for this short while. Because it is such a short while. A fraction of his little life. A mere drop in the ocean.
And our bedtime routine now? It goes like this: Little N gets tired around 7pm. I say “do you want to go to bed?” and he walks out of the room, crawls up the stairs – with me following, don’t worry - and clings on to the side of his cot. I get into his cot with him, he has his milk and then we cuddle until he falls asleep. He sleeps until around 5am and then my little hot water bottle comes into my bed for cuddles and sleeps until 7am. He sleeps as much as my friends’ babies, but he has got there in his own time.
He is happy, I am happy. It isn’t so crazy after all.

Hi everyone! It’s Little N here! For the past few weeks I’ve been road-testing a new nappy; I was sent a Jungle Animals nappy from family-run company Freeva. Freeva was started in 2013 by Freya and Eva’s mum and dad, bringing us an awesome range of cloth nappies in adorable prints as well as nappy accessories such as inserts, wetbags and nappy buckets.
Freeva nappies are reusable pocket cloth nappies. They have a waterproof PUL fabric layer on the outside and a soft suede cloth fabric on the inside. Between these two layers is a pocket, which is where the absorbent insert goes. Each Freeva nappy comes with a super soft microfiber insert but your mum or dad can purchase inserts made from other materials such as bamboo if you prefer. Microfiber is quite good for me during the daytime while bamboo is great at night.
Mama said that Freeva nappies are what are known as “birth-to-potty” or “one size fits most” nappies. The nappy has poppers on the front so she can adjust the rise as I grow. They should fit babies from 6lbs to 33lbs, literally from birth to potty training. It has soft elastic around the leg cuffs and on the waist, along with the velcro tabs this meant we were able to get an excellent fit. Very important if you want a bombproof nappy! And by bomb, I mean poo.
Mama usually changes my nappy every 2-3 hours, and my Freeva nappy lasted about this long before needing changing too. I’ve not suffered any leaks since trialling this nappy, something mama is always nervous about when trying a new brand, and it is pretty bombproof. I love the cool pictures on this nappy, it is really fun and bright. Most of all I love how soft it feels; both the nappy outer and the insert are super snuggly. This is really important to mama to know that I am confortable in my nappies.
Mama says washing the nappy was simple, as with all my cloth nappies. She did a prewash before using as this gets rid of any residues left from the manufacturing process which might hinder absorbency. After use, wet nappies are washed at 40 degrees and soiled nappies at 60 degrees. My mama always does a cold rinse first, but ask someone else’s mum and she’ll have a different way of washing! Mama doesn’t tumble-dry my nappies, she line dries as she thinks this is kinder to the materials.
Freeva nappies cost from just £9.95 which mama said is really good value for money, whatever that means. If that isn’t tempting enough, you can get 5% off by using discount code QUITEFRANKLYSHESAID. There is no expiry date and you can use the code as many times as you like! Head on over to freeva.co.uk to check out their full range of wonderful nappies and accessories.
Fluffy love!
Disclosure: I received Freeva nappy for free for review, however all thoughts and opinion remain my own. With thanks to Freeva.

When I was pregnant I became a lot more conscious of my skin and started making a more of an effort to use some sort of body moisturiser each day, especially during the winter months when the cold weather and central heating reeks absolute havoc on my skin. When the weather gets colder I prefer to use something a little richer like this lovely body butter from Seascape.
The Soothe range from Jersey brand Seascape, has been created for use before, during and after pregnancy to help the skin through the pre- and post-natal period. The range is fragranced with pregnancy-safe essential oils such as lavender, ylang ylang and mandarin. It’s also paraben, silicone, petroleum and SLS free and suitable for vegetarians.
Seascape Soothe Body Butter is made with Jersey beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, rosehip seed oil, grape seed oil and sweet almond oil to help reduce stretch marks and repair damaged skin. It’s a thick butter but still quite light meaning it moisturises deeply but absorbs really quickly. I hate waiting around for body lotions to sink in!
I’ve found this body butter leaves my skin feeling really soft and nourished; if only I had known about it when I was pregnant as it would have been a perfect belly butter! The fragrance is calming and relaxing, just what mums and mums-to-be need. It would be lovely as part of a gift for a new mum.
Seascape Soothe Body Butter costs £22.00 for a generous 125ml jar and can be bought here.

I’ve never actually done a tag post before, despite being tagged in them in the past and seeing tag posts on other blogs. I saw this one on another blog and enjoyed reading the answers so thought I’d give it a go.
1. Are you a Stay at Home Mum, or a Working Mum?I’m a stay at home mum. I was an accountant before Little N came along but have been at home full time apart from a Saturday job I had for two months before Christmas.
2. Would you have it any other way?Absolutely not. I love being a stay at home mum and always said that this is what I would want to do if I had children. Of course I miss earning my own money and being able to impulse buy anything that caught my eye, but I still wouldn’t swap my life. I love spending every day with my gorgeous little boy. No amount of stuff could make up for the memories.
3. Do you co-sleep?Currently only part of the night. Little N now starts off in his cot and if he wakes in the night I bring him into bed with us. Until he was about 10 months (I think) he slept in our bed the whole night.
4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?My pram which is a Quinny Buzz 3. We live on the outskirts of town so I have a long walk to get anywhere. When N was first born we lived in the centre of town so I could just pop him in a sling!
5. How many kids do you plan on having?I’d love 3, but who knows what the future holds!
6. Date night? How many nights per month?Ermm, we’ve not yet had a date night! I’ve been reluctant to leave N with anyone, I’m sure his difficult birth makes me a bit anxious, but we have a date planned next weekend and hopefully it will become a monthly thing.
7. Your childs favourite show?Until this week N didn’t really watch TV, but I had CBeebies on in the background the other day and it turns out that he really, really loves Balamory. He’s worked out how to go into the recordings and put it on. Pretty impressive for a 15 month old!
8. Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and never ended up using?Soft leather baby shoes. Don’t bother with them!
9. Your child’s favourite food?Pasta with pesto. He also loves crisps, I have to hide if I’m eating them as he’ll bully me into giving them to him.
10. How many cars does your family have? One, but my partner takes it to work. I get use of it about once every two months.
11. Weight gain before pregnancy, during and after and now?I was 8st 9lb when I found out I was pregnant, I put on about 2st during my pregnancy, lost it within 2 weeks of giving birth and currently weigh 8st 4lb.
12. Dream holiday with your kids?Anywhere! I haven’t been on holiday since 2012! I would love to take N to New York.
13. Dream holiday without your kids?I can’t imagine leaving him but I guess a relaxing beach holiday would be amazing, somewhere like Barbados or Hawaii.
14. How has your life changed since your baby has been born?My life has changed completely; the biggest change obviously being that I gave up my job. I’ve also lost old friends, gained new friends, learnt an abundance of new skills, discovered unknown talents, and pretty much found the real me.
15. Finish the sentence: ‘It makes my heart melt to see …’Little N tottering over with his lips pouted, arms held out, going “mmmmmm”. I love his kisses and cuddles!
16. Where do you shop for your kids? For cloths, mostly Next as it’s pretty much the only decent shop in my town for children’s clothes. I do love Frugi as well so occasionally order a few bits from there. N has eczema so his bath and skin creams are prescribed, his wipes are usually from Waitrose. For food he has always eaten the same as us so I don’t buy him specific baby meals, although do get him toddler snacks, like Goodies Organix, from the supermarkets.
17. Favourite makeup and skincare products?I’m a complete product tart so I don’t really stick to any one skincare brand; I quite like Balance Me, Yes To and Neal’s Yard Remedies. For make up I like a mixture; I like Chanel foundation and Lancome mascaras but for everything else it’s whatever catches my eye.
18. Huggies or Pampers?Neither! I use cloth nappies. My partner doesn’t like them though so for his weekly nappy change he uses Sainsbury’s disposable nappies.
19. Have you always wanted kids?
I went through a phase in my early twenties of thinking I would never be capable of being a mother, but deep down I knew it was something I wanted more than anything else in the world.
I went through a phase in my early twenties of thinking I would never be capable of being a mother, but deep down I knew it was something I wanted more than anything else in the world.
20. Best part about being a mum?How could I possibly name just one thing! There are so many wonderful things, from the kisses and cuddles, getting to watch this tiny little human grow and learn, the love, the feeling of completeness. I love it all.
I tag: any Mummy who wants to have a go, I’m not going to pressure anyone by tagging them ;)
