Days Out: Willows Activity Farm Easter EGGstravaganza 2019 | Review

How is your Easter break going? Ours has got off to a cracking start! We kicked off the school break with a visit to one of our favourite places, Willows Activity Farm. Willows kindly sent us some tickets so that we could pop along and check out this year's Easter EGGstraavaganza event, and of course share our experience with you! Read on to see what we got up to on our visit to Willows Farm this Easter...

We have been fans of Willows Activity Farm in London Colney, Hertfordshire, for years and the Easter and Christmas events are our favourite times to go! Willows has over 300 farm animals and over 40 activities, shows and attractions every day throughout the year which makes it a brilliant day out for young families. As well as special events at Easter and Christmas, there are other seasonal events such as pumpkin picking, lambing, and the amazing maize maze (try saying that quickly!) to name just a few!

There are also daily shows and meet and greets with Peter Rabbit and Friends, Tristan the Runaway Tractor, the indoor Farmyard and the incredible Peter Rabbit Adventure Playground, and so much more. During the Easter EGGstravaganza Event the programme includes an egg hunt, Easter arts and crafts and brand new Peter Rabbit shows. And until 22nd April they also have Sublime Science shows running throughout the day.

Everything is included in the ticket price and there is so much to do you can really make a whole day of it. We usually arrive at 10am and leave at closing time! If you book online tickets in advance the prices are:  Child £19, Adult £18, Senior, £17, Disabled £12, Group £11. On the door prices are: Child £23, Adult £22, Senior £21, Disabled £13.00.

We visited on Monday and arrived just after lunchtime. The children had a quick bite to eat then we headed into the indoor Farmyard to say hello to the animals. It was very exciting to see the little chicks that have recently hatched, especially as we keep chickens at home. We spent a lot of time holding the guinea pigs and the children were in fits of giggles upon hearing their names - one was called Donald Trump as it had a big floppy mop of hair!

The shows at Willows are always a big hit with the children as they are fun and energetic, and the children are encouraged to get up and join in with the actions. We watched the Cottontail Bunny Hop Show at the outdoor theatre and Essie had a great time jumping and dancing along. We then placed our bets at the Pig racing; none of us chose the winning pig though. It so funny to watch them running, I didn't realise pigs were as fast as that!

We then popped over to the Peter Rabbit theatre where the Sublime Science Show was about to start. This was brilliant and the children we absolutely mesmerised. The man leading the show said the theme was fire and ice, so there was a lot of flames, combustion, explosions and dry ice! At one point my stepdaughter went up to the front to have a go too. If you are going to Willows this Easter make sure you catch this show as it's fantastic.

Next up we watched the Animal Encounters show, where the farmer commands sheepdogs who herd ducks around the pen and over obstacles. We've seen this a few times in the past but it is still so impressive to see! I mean, herding sheep is one thing but DUCKS! We also got to pet the dogs and ducks and we also got to pick the ducks up and put them in the farmer's wheelbarrow. My husband was in his element, as was Noah!

Finally it was on to the Easter Egg Hunt and I think Willows do theirs really well. One of the paddocks is set up with little play houses, flowers and other displays, with little coloured egg shapes scattered around. Children take a basket when they go in and have to find five different coloured eggs, which they can then exchange for chocolate eggs at the end. It is easy enough for little ones to do, without it being too easy for bigger children, and it's spacious with plenty of eggs for everyone to be able to find theirs.

Before we left we headed over to the Peter Rabbit Adventure Playground to burn off those chocolate eggs and the last of the children's energy! We reviewed the Adventure Playground back when it first opened so you can read more about it in this post. It's such a lovely playground with lots to do and the interactive elements are so much fun!
