etc

I have to confess, for a long time I didn’t understand the fuss over Dyson vacuum cleaners and the obsession some people have with them. They couldn’t be that much better than the other brands on the market, surely? Last month I was invited to attend an event at the Dyson showroom in London to learn more about the renowned British company and their latest V6 cordless technology. I would never have thought that a cordless vacuum could be just as powerful as a corded cleaner. I left the event a total convert and couldn’t wait to get my hands on my own Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner. My Dyson V6 Total Clean is now here and I can’t stop telling people how absolutely brilliant it truly is. I am now one of those obsessed people.

Last weekend I headed to the Dyson press office in London for a child-free afternoon at the exclusive Dyson and Currys PC World #NoCordsAttached event. The event was a chance to learn about Dyson’s history, the latest cordless Dyson V6 technology and have some hands-on fun with some cordless Dyson cleaners.

My family and I live in a privately rented house so as you can imagine we are very limited on what we can do to make our house a home. We aren't allowed to decorate, so we are stuck with our landlord's interesting taste in wallpaper. The way I make my house a home is by choosing lovely soft furnishings, linens and decorative items.  I’ve put together a mood board of the items I would choose from The Yorkshire Linen Co to makeover my bedroom for under £75.

Top 5 Favourite Smells

1. BABIES
If you’re a parent, you’ll know the smell I’m talking about. That sweet intoxicating scent of a minutes old newborn baby, that makes you want to just hold them and breathe them in forever. WHAT IS IT?! Whatever it is, that smell is the best smell in the world.

You’d have to have been living under a rock – or maybe a different country – on Friday night/Saturday morning to have missed the thunderstorms that raged across the UK. Where I live, in north Hertfordshire, it was SO loud and SO bright with each flash of lightning that it lit up my road as if it was daytime.

I couldn’t sleep through it so I stood at the window watching for a while. Then I wondered if I would be able to capture a lightning bolt on camera. I couldn’t work out what setting to put my DSLR on for that kind of photo [noob], so instead I resorted to my trusty phone [I have a Samsung Galaxy S5].

I stood at the window with my phone pressed against the glass, and whenever I thought there might be a flash of lightning I tapped my phone several times in quick succession.

I must have taken about 500 photos in total and most of them were just photographs of darkness. However, amongst all the black, it turned out that I’d managed to capture 4 photos showing a lightning bolt spreading across the sky.

Pretty cool, huh!

Did you watch the lightning?

We’re going to Bluestone National Park Resort in Wales for a 4-night staycation*. It’s my first holiday in 3 years – oh my god, I so need this – and it’s our first holiday as a family. The last time I went on holiday I was pregnant with Little N, and he is 3 in a few months! Set in 500 acres of stunning Pembrokeshire countryside, Bluestone Wales offers a unique UK holiday location where kids and adults can roam wild and free.

Bluestone Wales offers lots of activities and adventures, including the Blue Lagoon waterpark, the Adventure Zone, the Well Spa and several restaurants. I’ve had a little look at all they have to offer, and although we’re just planning to relax and play it by ear, there are a few things we’ve decided we want to do.
