REVIEW: Skinade

Over the last month I’ve been trialling Skinade. Skinade is an award-winning anti-ageing collagen drink recommended by beauticians, dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons, and loved by celebrities!
Skinade say: “Drinking Skinade on a daily basis results in firmer, more even toned, hydrated, radiant, youthful and healthier looking skin. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles and repairs connective tissue, so you’ll also benefit from stronger, healthier and faster-growing hair and nails.”

WHAT IS SKINADE?
Skinade drinks contain bio-available hydrolysed collagen peptides. Studies have shown that after being ingested orally, more than 90% of hydrolysed collagen peptides are absorbed by the body, with 95% absorbed within the first 12 hours, and may also trigger the body’s own natural process of collagen production.
Collagen forms the main structural element of the skin in the collagen matrix in the dermis. When collagen molecules are damaged, skin loses its elasticity and begins to sag, wrinkle and age. Once we reach the age of 20, we begin to lose 1% of our collagen each year, and this results in our skin having a more aged appearance, with wrinkles, fine lines, dry, blemished and thinning skin.
Taken daily for up to 12 weeks, the collagen peptides in Skinade have clinically shown to:

- Increase skin hydration levels
- Increase skin smoothness by reducing the number of fine lines
- Prevent the formation of deep wrinkles
- Improve skin suppleness.
Skinade also contains: vitamin C which is essential for forming and maintaining the collagen matrix; MSM which helps keratin and collagen formation; B vitamins to promote glowing, radiant skin; omegas 3 & 6 which balance dry and oily skin; and L-lysine which is essential for building the collagen matrix at a molecular level.

HOW TO TAKE SKINADE
Skinade drinks come in 150ml bottles containing the perfect ratio of liquid to active ingredients. Skinade also comes in travel-sized 15ml sachets, which contain the same level of nutrients as the normal bottles, and are simply stirred into half a glass of cold water.
Ideally Skinade should be drunk once per day with breakfast, which is what I did. The drink is flavoured with peach and mangosteen and contains only 35 calories. Results can be seen as early as 4 days, when you might notice softer and more hydrated skin.
After 14 days skin should begin to look more radiant. After 4 weeks skin should feel fuller and firmer with a noticable reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. Continuing to drink Skinade after this period will maintain the results and your skin should continue to improve.

DID IT WORK?
I drank Skinade every day for 30 days after my breakfast. As per the instructions I tried to avoid drinking any caffeinated drinks within an hour, so that the ingredients could be fully absorbed, but other than that I didn’t change my diet or skincare routine in any way.
Skinade is a bright yellow drink, as you can see below. It also has that strong smell associated with vitamin tablets and drinks, but it doesn’t taste as strong as it smells. The natural peach and mangosteen flavours make it easy to drink.
I was somewhat sceptical about whether a drink could really improve my skin’s appearance. As a stay-at-home mum to a toddler and a baby, it’s safe to assume I look shattered all the time. However, after about two weeks of drinking Skinade, I started to notice that my skin was looking much brighter and less tired.
I have always had dark circles under my eyes, ever since I was a child, and when I am tired, stressed or unwell, they look worse. I started to realise that I wasn’t needing to apply as much under eye concealer. My skin felt firmer and looked much fresher than usual.
The most noticeable improvement however was not to my skin, but to my hair! As with approximately 50% of new mothers, I suffered from the dreaded post-partum hair moult after Baby J was born. Since drinking Skinade my hair has had a sudden growth spurt. Not only has it suddenly gotten longer, but I have also got lots of new hair growing.
It’s most noticeable around my hairline where you can see about an inch and a half of new hair growth. You can also notice a halo of little baby hairs along my parting. They’re a pain to style, as they just stick up, but I’m so delighted that my hair is growing so well and so quickly!

IS IT WORTH IT?
Skinade works out at £3 per drink. I’m sure you’re probably thinking, “I could just buy cheaper vitamin tablets”. Sure, you could. But…
To get the same ingredients as in Skinade you’d need to take about 20 large tablets per day. By taking Skinade’s ingredients in liquid form, you’ll absorb 80-90% of them, whereas you’d only absorb 30-40% of the ingredients in tablet form.
I’ve never seen such an improvement to my hair and skin with any other vitamin supplement. I’ve never seen my hair grow this quickly. I'm so unbelievably impressed by the results I've had! For the price of a high street coffee, you could have Skinade’s anti-aging skincare drink instead. So yes, it’s totally worth it!
Skinade are currently offering the chance to take their taste test by requesting a free sample travel sachet – if you’d like to try it for yourself click here. You can also send one to a friend! (UK residents only).

  1. My little boy is nearly 8 months and I have been losing clumps of my hair in the shower for months and months now - I'm surprised there is anything left! I'm a bit nervous about taking things whilst I'm breastfeeding but once I stop I would definitely consider giving this a go
