Playtime: The Very Hungry Caterpillar 4-in-1 Games Cube Review & Giveaway

This term Noah has been learning all about nature and mini beasts at nursery school. The children have being doing all sorts of fun things: they hatched butterflies, had an ugly bug ball and have been reading books with creepy crawlies. It was great timing when we were sent a little box of games relating to one of our favourite nature-inspired stories to review: The Very Hungry Caterpillar 4-in-1 Games Cube from Paul Lamond Games.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar 4-in-1 Games Cube from Paul Lamond Games is a small box measuring just 135mm cubed which is packed with four classic games: Matching Bingo, Snap, Twisted Pairs and Four Shapes in a Row. The games are suitable for children aged 3 years onwards and help them to learn about shapes, colours and animals while they have fun playing. When the box first arrived I couldn't believe that four whole games could possibly fit inside, but they do!

Inside the box are four large double-sided game pieces. On one side these are individual bingo cards for the Matching Bingo game, and on the other side they are put together to make up the board for Four Shapes in a Row. There are also 60 small, round game pieces which are used with Matching Bingo and Four Shapes in a Row, a stack of square game pieces for Matching Bingo, a spinner for Four Shapes in a Row and a pack of cards for Twisted Pairs and Snap.

The game pieces are all brightly coloured in the familiar style of The Very Hungry Caterpillar book. My children were delighted to see the caterpillar that they love so much along with other creatures and animals and everything is so beautifully designed. The game boards are made out of thick cardboard while the playing cards and other pieces are made out of thinner card. Everything fits neatly into the cube once playtime is over.

The games are suitable for between two and four players so it encourages my two to play together nicely. The boys' favourite games are Matching Bingo and Four Shapes in a Row. They are both fantastic games for helping the children to learn about shapes, colours and little critters. Jude hasn't quite mastered the idea of waiting his turn, but at least it's helping him learn that, too! It's a lovely little box of games to have stashed away for rainy day fun and I think it's ideal to buy as a gift for when the boys' friends have a birthday.
