Review: My Expert Midwife Pre- & Post-Natal Products

During the last month of my pregnancy I was contacted about trying a new range of pre- and post-natal products from My Expert Midwife. Developed by midwife and mum duo, Lesley and Claire, the range was developed to ease some of the less desirable physical side effects of pregnancy, birth and motherhood. The side effects that tend not to get talked about much, but really should! The four products in the range are: Spritz for Bits, No Harm Nipple Balm, Fantastic Skin Elastic and Peri Prep Your Bits. They have been specially developed to prevent and heal side effects like itchy, stretched skin, sore nipples and vaginal discomfort such as tears, bruising and episiotomies.

No Harm Nipple Balm - £16.50

Made with pure medical grade lanolin, this balm is perfect for easing any nipple soreness experienced by mums, as well as being versatile enough to use on baby's bottom or on dry skin areas, too. It helps reduce soreness, promote healing and repair cracked skin. The chunky pump dispenser makes it easy to dispense the right amount using one hand - doing things one-handed is something we mums become pros at! I personally don't use lanolin on my skin, but have a few expectant friends who will be able to make good use of this balm.

Fantastic Skin Elastic - £27.50

This cream is perfect for growing bumps but can also be used on other areas of the body. It contains vitamin E to encourage skin elasticity, sweet almond oil to prevent dryness, grapefruit oil to reduce constipation and argan oil to restore and protect the skin. I obviously no longer have a bump, but I am still massaging creams and oils into my tummy in the hopes that it will help my skin return to normal, and it also helps to ease the dryness I seem to suffer from post-natally.

Peri Prep Your Bits - £15.50

Massaging the perineum from 34 weeks of pregnancy is proven to reduce the risk of tearing or needing an episiotomy during birth. However, I have to say, hats off to any of you ladies who have actually managed perineum massage during pregnancy. How you manage to reach down there I do not know! This oil is infused with avocado, grapeseed and sweet almond oil to improve skin's elasticity and suppleness ahead of the birth. It can also be used to soothe piles, another of pregnancy's glamourous side effects, or post-birth to help with healing.

Spritz for Bits - £19.50

This is hands down my favourite product of the range. The spray is made with lavender oil, tea tree and witch hazel, three fantastic ingredients which are incredibly soothing, anti-bacterial and help promote healing. It can be sprayed directly onto the perineum following birth, and can even be used on c-section wounds after a week. I already knew about the power of lavender oil after my midwife told me to have lavender baths to heal my tear. I have been spraying Spritz for Bits onto my maternity pads for soothing, cooling relief. I am sure it has helped aid the healing of my second degree tear and I would absolutely recommend this to any mum.

You can find out more about the My Expert Midwife range on their website where you also get free UK standard delivery. It's about time we mums had a range of no-nonsense pre- and post-natal products like this!
