REVIEW: Try Not To Breathe by Holly Seddon

I had just finished reading The Girl On The Train when my copy of Try Not To Breathe arrived in the post. I didn't think another book could possibly have me as gripped its predecessor, but it absolutely did!

The book has three main characters. Alex, an alcoholic writer, and Amy, who has been in a vegetative state after an attacker left her for dead 15 years earlier. After realising that they are the same age and grew up in the same area, Alex becomes interested in finding out exactly what happened to Amy, but in doing so is she putting her own life at risk? The third character is Jacob who was going out with Amy at the time she was attacked. He has moved on with his life, but part of him can't let go of Amy and he agrees to work with Alex to find out what happened.

The chapters alternate between the three characters, with Alex and Jacob's story being told in the present day and Amy's starting 15 years ago before finally catching up to the present day. It's an exciting and intriguing novel and I struggled to put the book down; I just had to know what happened next and was compelled to keep reading.

Seddon writes just enough in each chapter before switching characters to leave you desperate to know more. The story quickly picks up the pace and the plot is gradually revealed. By the final chapter my heart was pounding in my chest.

A fantastic thriller that you won't regret reading. Thanks to Real Readers and Corvus for my review copy.

  3. This sounds like a really good read! I'm on a bit of a book buying ban at the moment whilst I read everything unread on my bookshelf, but this is on the list for when I've finished xx
