REVIEW: Fisher-Price Smart Stages Toolbox

I can’t get over how quickly my boys are growing up. And growing out of things. Clothes, toys, you name it, it feels like they need something new each week! Thankfully Fisher-Price have realised this with their Smart Stages range: a variety of innovative toys which have 3 levels of play. As the baby grows parents can change the learning content to suit the child’s stage of-development.

The toys feature a huge selection of developmentally appropriate songs, phrases and sounds that can easily be changed with slide of a switch, thanks to the unique Smart Stages technology. One of the newest products in the range is the Fisher-Price Smart Stages Toolbox* (£19.99) which was sent for my boys to try out.

The Fisher-Price Smart Stages Toolbox is an adorable, brightly-coloured toy toolbox suitable for children aged 6 months and up. The three levels of the Smart Stages technology are:

Level 1 – Explore – 6M+ First words and sounds spark baby’s curiosity.
Level 2 - Encourage – 12M+ Prompt baby through questions and simple directions.
Level 3 – Pretend – 18M+ Imaginative fun and early role play

The toolbox introduces babies and toddlers to colours, numbers and shapes through role play. It has three light up pegs – one green circle, one yellow square and one red triangle – which can be bashed with the little rattle hammer. It also has a roller which can be spun and a ruler to slide back and forth.

J’s favourite thing to do is to open and close the lid of the toolbox, learning about opposites as he does so. The ruler teaches him about numbers and counting as he moves it. And the toolbox has plenty of fun sounds and songs – there are over 40 sing-a-long songs, words and phrases!

Little N is a big fan of the toolbox too and loves carrying it about by the chunky handle on the lid. When he wants to play with it I can simply slide the switch to stage 3 to make it more appropriate for him, and change back to level 1 when J wants to play.

The Fisher-Price Smart Stages toolbox is a really wonderful toy which really helps J hone in his fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. N loves the songs and it helps him to practise his numbers and colours. It’s a great toy that will grow with your child from 6 months old right through to toddlerhood and beyond!

What sort of toys do your children love to play with?

Disclosure: I was sent this toy in return for an honest review.
