Bluestone Wales: Planning Our Staycation

We’re going to Bluestone National Park Resort in Wales for a 4-night staycation*. It’s my first holiday in 3 years – oh my god, I so need this – and it’s our first holiday as a family. The last time I went on holiday I was pregnant with Little N, and he is 3 in a few months! Set in 500 acres of stunning Pembrokeshire countryside, Bluestone Wales offers a unique UK holiday location where kids and adults can roam wild and free.

Bluestone Wales offers lots of activities and adventures, including the Blue Lagoon waterpark, the Adventure Zone, the Well Spa and several restaurants. I’ve had a little look at all they have to offer, and although we’re just planning to relax and play it by ear, there are a few things we’ve decided we want to do.

MONDAY

Most of Monday will be spent travelling there, as it’s a 5 hour drive and we’ll need to stop a couple of times for lunch and so the boys can stretch their little legs. Check-in is at 4.30pm and we’re just planning to settle into our accommodation and perhaps have a quick exploration of the resort After the drive neither of us will be in the mood to cook and we’ll be too tired to go out for dinner, so we’re planning to order a takeaway from Bluestone’s takeaway service.

TUESDAY

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from Bluestone offering me a two-hour Celtic Spa Experience at the Well Spa for just £10. The 5* spa was the winner of the The Good Spa Guide Awards 2014 so I would be mad to miss such a great offer! Ian will be visiting the spa too.

We’ve also decided to book one of the restaurants, The Oak Tree, for dinner on the Tuesday night. The Oak Tree is one of Bluestone’s newer restaurants and the menu features local Welsh produce with an Italian twist. Ian and I love dining out and trying new foods, and we both love Italian food so this sounds perfect.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday will most likely see us spending most of the day at the Blue Lagoon Waterpark. Entry to the waterpark is included in the package. It has an indoor beach, a wave machine and flumes, plus a spa pool and a special area for little ones. There’s even somewhere to grab a bite to eat, The Fish Shack, so we could get lunch there.

Wednesday is also the night we’re planning to have a BBQ. Bluestone allows the use of BBQs (except in studios, but we’re staying in a lodge so that’s fine), and they even sell disposable ones in the village supermarket.

THURSDAY

Thursday is our last full day at Bluestone. We might venture off site to see what Pembrokeshire has to offer, and I’d like to take the boys to play at the Adventure Zone which has lots of fun things for little ones like a soft play centre and baby sensory rooms.

We’ve booked another restaurant for dinner on the Thursday, this time we’ll be going to the Farmhouse Grill. As the name suggests, it’s a grill menu with a variety of (mostly) meat and fish using fresh, locally sourced ingredient.

FRIDAY

Friday we’ll be travelling back home. Check out is early, at 10am so we’ll need to be up and at ‘em pretty early if I’m going have us all packed and ready to go! I’m sure we’ll have a bit of time to squeeze in some more playtime for the boys at the park or the Adventure Zone before starting the long drive back home again.
