We have spent most of the Christmas holidays at home, vegging out and stuffing our faces with more food than I knew was possible to eat. Yesterday I decided that enough was enough. We needed to go out and get some fresh air! We went to town and Little N and Ian went to get their haircut, so that they'll look smart for returning to work and starting preschool next week. We had a little wander around the shops, grabbed some lunch and then headed to Wymondley Wood to go exploring.

2015 has been a crazy, busy year. A toddler and a baby, and two stepchildren. School schedules, toddler groups, breastfeeding support groups.  Planning holidays. Planning a wedding! Family life, blog life. I've had two diaries and a notepad on the go. I write lists everywhere. Notes in my phone, on the back of receipts, reminders everywhere. Go here, don't forget to do this, remember that. Never switching off.

On Sunday night Baby J had me up half the night - I wish I was exaggerating - so yesterday we had a quiet day at home. When J went for his nap, Little N and I got the craft stuff out and had a go at some of the Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom Festive Fun activities. There are lots of fun things you can do, such as making Christmas cards and crackers, a letter to Santa, a Christmas hot chocolate recipe and a dot-to-dot Santa's sleigh activity.

In my post about why I choose extended rear-facing car seats, I explained that Baby J's new car seat is the Joie i-Anchor. This car seat is part of the i-AnchorSafe system, which is held with the i-AnchorFIX base. It’s suitable from birth and children can travel rear-facing up to 18kgs, which means that the average child will be able to sit rear-facing until they are about 4 years old. In this post I'll be telling you about the Joie i-Anchor car seat in more detail and giving you a closer look - including my tall 3 year old sitting in the seat!

Although I eat pretty healthily at mealtimes, I am an awful snacker. I am forever reaching for biscuits or crisps or chocolate, especially if I'm on the go and rushing around after my children. I heard about the Optiwell #SmallChanges challenge and it sounded ideal for someone like me. The challenge was to encourage me to make small changes to my unhealthy snack habits over a 10 day period by swapping them for Optiwell, a brand new yogurt drink with no fat and no added sugar!

It's crazy how quickly Little N is learning and developing at the moment. His speech is coming on leaps and bounds, and he picks up new words every day. He can recognise colours and shapes, he can count to 20 and he can sing the alphabet song - even if he does make half of it up! He knows the days of the week and he's now interested in knowing what time it is. To help him to learn about telling the time, he has his very own watch: a ladybird Anisnap watch from Aniworld

I don’t know about you but during the winter months I really struggle to drink enough water. The temptation of warming up with a hot cup of tea or coffee is far more appealing than the thought of swigging a cold glass of water. During winter dehydration can cause dry skin, chapped lips, tiredness, headaches and coughs so it’s really important to make sure you get enough H2O.

Robinsons have created a selection of seasonal recipes using their range of eleven delicious real fruit squash flavours to inspire us all to drink more water this winter, and my family and I have been trying them out. Here are my two favourite recipes to keep you hydrated AND warm through the colder season, with no added sugar! Yum!

Little N and Baby J have got two older siblings. My stepson was 5 and my stepdaughter was 3 when my eldest was born, and I thought that being a stepmum had prepared me for motherhood. I was so wrong. I had no idea what a shock to the system it would be. I had no idea how much it would impact my career, my relationship and my friendships, and I had no idea how long it would take me to find my confidence as a mother.

For as long as I can remember I have always enjoyed reading and my love of books is something I hope my children will inherit. The boys have quite an impressive little library already and I make a point of reading to them at least once a day. A great way to get young children interested in reading is with a book about their favourite characters, and even better if the child features in the book as well! Little N adores Thomas & Friends so this personalised Christmas book with him at the centre of the story is just the ticket.

You may have noticed that I’m a bit of a fan of foxes. I particularly adore baby and children’s clothing that features woodland creatures, especially when my little red furry friends are involved. So when I saw that organic lifestyle brand Finn + Emma was now available here in the UK at Natural Baby Shower I let out a little squeal of delight. Finn + Emma produce stunning wooden toys and clothing that are the perfect balance of style and sustainability. And their woodland collection features lots of furry critters, including foxes!

Before I had children most of my disposable income was spent on clothes. I love fashion and my colleagues would roll their eyes as daily parcels arrived from my lunchtime online shopping habit. Since having children, my own wardrobe has taken a back seat as my obsession with clothes has moved to kids fashion. So it’s always a treat to actually get something for me, like this gorgeous mustard chunky knit jumper from Luxemme.

Baby J has got a new set of wheels: the very cool Fisher-Price Charisma Trike. It’s a unique 3 in 1 tricycle that manoeuvres like a stroller. It’s suitable for ages 10-36 months and has three stages so it grows with the child, going from parent-controlled Touch Steering to an independent trike that he will eventually be able to pedal himself.

J recently reached the weight and height limit on his group 0+ car seat so it was time to choose a new one. I know that he is now old enough and weighs enough to be able to go into many of the forward-facing car seats, but like his older brother I am keeping him rear-facing for as long as possible. Why? Well, in a nutshell extended rear-facing is the safest way for a child to travel. It doesn’t mean that forward-facing car seats are not safe – they absolutely are safe – it just means that rear-facing is safer.

The new DVD has ten fun filled episodes and there is an activity book to accompany it, too. And to make lunch a little more interesting that day, I followed one of the recipes from Nanny Plum’s cookbook to make some fun caterpillar sandwiches.

I have to confess, for a long time I didn’t understand the fuss over Dyson vacuum cleaners and the obsession some people have with them. They couldn’t be that much better than the other brands on the market, surely? Last month I was invited to attend an event at the Dyson showroom in London to learn more about the renowned British company and their latest V6 cordless technology. I would never have thought that a cordless vacuum could be just as powerful as a corded cleaner. I left the event a total convert and couldn’t wait to get my hands on my own Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner. My Dyson V6 Total Clean is now here and I can’t stop telling people how absolutely brilliant it truly is. I am now one of those obsessed people.

Baby J started walking just after he turned 11 months old, but I haven’t been in a rush to get him wearing shoes. In fact, the opposite, as I have learned that being barefoot is best for little feet. Growing feet need plenty of room for muscles to strengthen, toes to be able to spread and learn to grip, and bones to form in their natural position.

Allowing children to be barefoot as much as possible, especially in the first few years of life, is the best way to allow this to happen. It’s not always practical, especially now that J wants to walk and explore outside, so shoes like Bobux protect those soft little toes but also mimic the freedom of being barefoot.

I have two children, two gorgeous and amazing little boys. They are my whole world, the centre of my universe, the apple of my eye, the anchors to my life. I am so proud of them and I love them beyond measure. But as much as I adore my beautiful children, I'm full of self-doubt and hate for my post-baby body.

I loved my pregnant body. I felt absolutely wonderful and embraced my growing bump during both of my pregnancies. But my post-baby body is proving a little harder to love.

I look in the mirror and this is what I see:

I see hair that is limp and fine. Hair that is recovering from the post-partum moult and has those fuzzy downy bits of regrowth that create a frizzy-looking halo around my head.

I had never tried a Waldorf salad before. It’s a classic but because I’m allergic to walnuts, it isn’t something I would ever order. So I came up with a Waldorf salad – with a twist! I’m not allergic to pine nuts so I often use them as a substitute, and that’s exactly what I did to create this delicious salad. It is such a tasty salad and it could not be easier to make!

We all know that breastfeeding is perfect for a baby, but did you know that breastmilk is also great for toddlers? In fact, the World Health Organisation and UNICEF recommend breastfeeding continue until at least the age of two and beyond. This year saw Dick Bruna’s loveable bunny Miffy turn 60, so Little N and I decided to bake some special cakes to celebrate Miffy’s 60th birthday! Using a simple fairy cake recipe and some super cute Miffy rice paper toppers, we came up with these scrummy little cakes.

Over the summer months Baby J has happily slept under a thin blanket, but now the weather is getting cooler and the nights are turning cold, a blanket isn’t enough. He is far too wriggly for a duvet, so going back to using a baby sleeping bag is the obvious choice. Now that he is walking, most baby sleeping bags would restrict his little feet, however Slumbersac have the perfect solution: a baby sleeping bag with feet!

My boys love yogurt and fromage frais. I introduced them when they first started weaning at 6 months old, and now they are 3 and 1 they still love them just as much. They like to have a pot of fromage frais as a healthy snack or pudding after a meal, and I have often thought that they would be a great snack to take when we are out and about for the day. Except for one thing… the mess!

Little N has been a bit of a fusspot with his food of late, but one thing he absolutely loves is milk. It’s a great source of protein, vitamin D and calcium so even if it’s a battle to get other food into him, at least I know he is getting a lot of goodness from milk. We took part in the #MilkDrinkersMilk Challenge with Britmums and Cravendale to show how we enjoy milk. I don’t drink milk so Little N was more than happy to take up the challenge instead!

I have always had a love of books, right from a young age, and I am trying to instil that love of books in my boys. They already have a large collection of bright and beautiful books, and the latest addition to their little library is City Atlas (£20.00)* from the Wide Eyed books series.

The great thing about baby-led weaning is that you and your baby can eat the same thing, so you don’t have to worry about making separate food for your child. As long as you’ve gone easy on the salt and there aren’t any whole nuts or honey (for under ones) then you can enjoy meals as a family! One of the other great things about this is that it makes me more aware of what we’re all eating, and so we’ve all been eating more healthily.

Like a lot of children his age, Little N is a big fan of Thomas & Friends. Not only is it fun to watch, it has also helped him to learn his colours and numbers. He was very excited when we received the Thomas & Friends My Push & Learn Thomas* from KD UK. It’s described as the ultimate train for fun and learning, as it helps children discover numbers, letters, colours, shapes and characters from the Thomas & Friends!

Tea is very much a part of everyday life for most Brits. This unique plant from China is now the nation’s favourite drink, and I for one can’t get through a day without at least one cup. For many of us, tea is made using tea bags, however to really appreciate the taste I love to brew a pot of loose leaf tea. With loose leaf tea you get the full flavour of the tea leaves, and you won’t get a more flavourful tea than Quinteassential’s award-winning range.

The idea of a family bed is one that has caused a lot of controversy over the years, as some believe that having an infant or toddler sleeping in a proper bed with parents is wrong while others believe that it is an individual choice and there is no right or wrong. Many parents decide that they want to go down the family bed route and this is because they believe that there are many benefits to doing this.

It’s safe to say that in the (almost) 3 years that I have been a mum, my style has totally changed. If you were to look back at old photos, you’d see that I was always wearing dangly earrings, pretty necklaces and funky bracelets. As any mum knows, costume and fine jewellery become a no-no once you have babies, because babies like to pull and tug and chew on pretty, dangly things. Well, not any more! With Nibbling’s fabulous range of baby-safe jewellery I no longer need to compromise. I can wear fashionable jewellery and it is safe for my baby to play with!

Welcome to another look at what’s on the menu this week! I hope it gives you some inspiration. As it’s getting colder we’re having soup at least once a week and I’m bringing out some of our favourite winter warmer meals. I love making our meal plans; life is so hectic so it’s good to have something organised, plus planning our meals each week tends to save us money!

Brrr, hasn’t the weather suddenly turned chillier? Long gone are the balmy days with the boys running around in the garden wearing sleeveless rompers and linen shorts; the t-shirts and sandals have been packed away in favour of chunky knits and soft trousers; and now you won’t see us anywhere without a coat and a hat on. J’s new coat for this winter is this gorgeous nautical rain coat* from Powell Craft.

My little tiny baby boy is no longer a little tiny baby boy. He is a strapping, lively, fun-loving one year old! He is a toddler! Can you believe it? I can’t. I swear he was born just yesterday. I know all parents will say that, but J’s first 12 months have absolutely flown by, so much faster than Little N’s first year. I guess it’s because I am running around – literally – after two of them that the time has gone so much quicker this time.

Next year my family and I will be heading to the Dominican Republic for my brother’s wedding. It will be the first time my boys have ever been abroad. Before I had children I used to love going to different countries for holidays and would go away at least once a year, so I hope this is the start of many more holidays to come!

I had a go at the Karcher Monuments of the World quiz and it got me thinking about the places I’d like to go. Here is a list of 5 cool cities around the world that I’d love to visit with my family.

Welcome to another look at what’s on the menu this week! Apart from the pizza that we have every week, I’ve yet to repeat a single meal since I started sharing my meal plans. I try not to repeat meals too often anyway but sharing with you means I am even more aware of keeping it interesting! I hope it gives you some inspiration.

With two lively boys keeping me on my toes I feel like I am spinning plates trying to keep on top of everything. I’ve become one of those people that has a diary, a calendar and reminders in my phone, yet still forgets everything. Birthdays especially. I’ve recently discovered Parcelgenie, a gift messaging app which allows me to send little gifts through an app on my phone and the recipient receives text messages letting them know they’re being sent something. Meaning that even if I remember a birthday on the day, I can still send a little present on time!

Last weekend I headed to the Dyson press office in London for a child-free afternoon at the exclusive Dyson and Currys PC World #NoCordsAttached event. The event was a chance to learn about Dyson’s history, the latest cordless Dyson V6 technology and have some hands-on fun with some cordless Dyson cleaners.

My boys have a lot of toys between them. It drives Ian mad, but I think play is so important for children. As well being fun, they can learn so much through playing! I’m quite fussy about their toys and have a penchant for brightly coloured wooden toys. I think wooden toys are more durable, kinder to the environment and they look beautiful. Mum of two (or seven if you count the dog and chickens!) Emma agrees, and so she recently launched Wood and Wonder, with an exciting range of wooden toys designed to inspire imagination and creative play for babies and pre-schoolers.
