This month I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Betrousse Glitz & Glamour beauty box, one of four beauty boxes currently available from Betrousse. The Glitz & Glamour beauty box, with its pretty pink and black packaging, contains four gorgeous full-sized products worth £37.00 for only £10.00 plus shipping!

The Glitz & Glamour box contains four full-sized products to prepare you for the winter months.

Benta Berry G-1 Exfoliating Facial Cleanser: My fiance has used one of the moisturisers from the Benta Berry range and he loved it, it worked wonders for his skin. It’s made from 100% natural ingredients and works to regulate the skin. I spend a lot of time on my evening cleanse so will enjoy using this. (30ml/£14.00)

JASON Normalising Shampoo: This shampoo smells divine and I simply can’t wait to try it. I’ve heard so many great things about JASON products but have only ever tried a lip balm from their range. Looking at the ingredients list there are a lot of natural extracts included, and the shampoo is free from SLS and parabens. (255ml/£7.29)

Fair Naturally Mango & Safflower Body Moisturiser: This rich, fruity body lotion contains organic and fairtrade ingredients so as well as nourishing your skin it helps mango, sugar and almond farmers around the world. (200ml/£3.99)

Make Believe Beauty Enhance Shimmer Lip Gloss: This lipgloss is from the tanning brand’s accompanying make-up range which has been created to enhance your tan. It contains a hint of shimmer so can be worn alone or worn over another lip colour. (15ml/£10.00)

The Betrousse Glitz & Glamour box previously contained a fifth product, a Tulecos oil, however these have now been removed from the boxes due to the oils reaching their expiry date.

This is such a great box, there aren't many beauty boxes out there that contain full-sized products. I also like that you don’t need to subscribe and you know what’s in the box before ordering, so you can just order a box on a one-off basis if you like the look of the products. If you like the look of this beauty box then simply head over to the Betrousse website where you can order one for £10.00 plus shipping http://www.betrousse.com

I have another Betrousse Glitz & Glamour beauty box to giveaway to one lucky reader, so keep your eyes peeled over the next few days and make sure you’re following on Bloglovin’ so you don’t miss your chance to win!

Disclosure: I received the Betrousse Glitz & Glamour beauty box for free for review, however all thoughts and opinion remain my own. With thanks to Betrousse for the sample.

Have you ever tried “natural” nail polish? Until recently, I hadn’t. My Natural Beauties specialise in skincare and cosmetics that are organic, natural, cruelty-free and affordable. Their range is huge, covering everything from aromatherapy to make-up, candles to skincare, perfumes to cosmetics, and they have free standard UK delivery on all orders. They kindly sent me the Suncoat Natural Nail Art set in ‘Earth’ to try!

Suncoat natural nail art set earthSuncoat natural nail art set earth gold white pink green

The set contains four 7ml bottles of water-based mineral nail colours: gold, white, pink and green. Each bottle has a thin nail art brush built into the lid. They are chemical solvent free and Suncoat is against animal testing. All four colours have a pearly finish and you don’t need a nail polish remover – they simply peel off! I couldn’t wait to play with them.

Suncoat natural nail art set earth mineral water based nail polish

Since these are natural nail polishes I thought it would be a shame to use them with my usual base and top coats so I created these looks without either. The first photo I used 2 coats of each polish to build up a pretty, soft, pearly finish. I’m sure using a white base coat would make the colours stand out more. The second photo I used 3 coats of pink then used a dotting tool with the white. I love how this looks, it’s really pretty! The third photo I used 3 coats of green and 2 coats of gold to create the line down the middle.

The gold and the pink look the best I think, they dry to a really smooth finish. Green and white need a few more coats and a little more patience, and ideally a top coat to get a smooth finish. All four colours dry incredibly quickly; touch dry in a few minutes and totally dry in under an hour which is brilliant!

Ever since Rosie from The Londoner posted a recipe for Slutty Brownies I have wanted to make them but I always get distracted and forget about them. I made them yesterday but instead of using packets like Rosie’s recipe, I made both the cookie dough and the brownie batter from scratch. Since you’re going to have to stir in the eggs and water if you use packets anyway you might as well do it all properly, it’s just as quick!

Slutty brownies recipe no packets

Step 1: Cookie Dough

  • 115g butter, room temperature
  • 175g light brown sugar
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 200g plain flour
  • 50g chocolate chips

Mix the butter and sugar, then mix in the egg, water, oil and vanilla extract. Once combined mix in the bicarbonate of soda, flour and chocolate chips. (If you want to use this recipe to make cookies, leave out the oil and water). Smooth the dough into the bottom of your lined baking tray (mine was 30cm x 20cm).

Step 2: Oreo layer
Open packet. Arrange Oreos!

Step 3: Brownies

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 175g butter
  • 325g caster sugar
  • 130g plain flour
  • 3 medium eggs

Melt the chocolate and butter in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Once melted and smooth, remove from the heat and stir in the sugar, then stir in the flour and finally the eggs. Pour the batter over the cookie dough/Oreos.

Step 4: Bake!
Bake in a preheated oven for 35 minutes at 170-180 degrees.

Be prepared to have a lie down after eating one of these, they are seriously naughty! I think next time I make them I will double, or at least half again, the amount of cookie dough to have a thicker cookie layer – if you do, don’t double the oil and water, a teaspoon of each will still be fine. Coincidentally I have started doing the 30 Day Shred again today. I was planning to start it again anyway, but after eating some of these brownies I feel like I need to do it!

Talking of brownies, if you follow me on Twitter and Instagram you will know that I made bacon brownies for my fiancé's birthday last week. I urge you NOT to make bacon brownies. Don’t do it. Nigella’s recipe for brownie batter is the weirdest I have ever tried, it’s just chocolate sponge. And the texture of the bacon was just too weird. The taste was fine, we all know salt and chocolate is amazing, but chunks of meat in my cake? Just no.

To make up for this atrocity I am going to make salted caramel brownies. I’ve got some condensed milk and some lovely Fleur de Sel so will keep you posted on how they turn out!

I picked up a few little things in town recently. Normally I use YSL Touche Eclat under my eyes but I wanted something high street for every day so I picked up a Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer (£4.99)

I also thought I’d get an “every day” foundation instead of the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua that I normally use. My friend, who also loves the Chanel foundation, said she’d got a great one from Revlon so I had a browse on their counter before settling on Revlon Nearly Naked (£8.99) in True Beige. I now think I should have got Natural Beige, oh well!

There was a buy one, get one half price offer on Barry M – an irresistible combination - so I treated myself couple of nail polishes: Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine in Blueberry and Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine in Papaya (£3.99). Aren’t they lovely colours!

I’ve had a difficult week, but it's been somewhat lifted by the arrival of a few lovely packages, such as the September beauty box from Birchbox which arrived this afternoon.

Backstage to Real Life is the theme of the September beauty box from Birchbox, bringing beauty secrets from the catwalks at London Fashion Week.

Bioderma Sebium H2O I know that lots of people are going to be super excited about this product because micellar waters, especially Bioderma, are really hyped up in the blogging world so well done Birchbox. But I’m just not a fan. I prefer to cleanse my face properly. I’ll use this as a make-up remover but it won’t replace my usual cleanser which I do see a lot of people do. it smells really nice though, it’s reminding me of when I used to go to the south of France. Clearly I must have used a product back then that smells similar! (20ml)

ModelCo Party Proof Matte Lipstick in “Kitty” I’m really happy to see this lipstick in my box this month. It’s an easy-to-wear soft, neutral pink. (3.8g)

Reverence de Bastien Nail Lacquer “N°13” I got a deep pearly berry shade from this luxury cosmetics brand. It looks like a great colour to wear for autumn and winter. (12ml)

Molton Brown Ylang-Ylang Nourishing Body Lotion I love Molton Brown so I was delighted to receive the body lotion to match the body wash that came in the August box. It smells so good and the scent from Molton Brown products always lingers on the skin. Gorgeous! (30ml)

Eva Cosmetics Mystic Diamond Argan Oil Hair Elixir This has actual diamond powder in it! I love using oils as I’m sure you have gathered from past posts and I look forward to trying this… just as soon as I figure out how to open the little bottle. The lid seems stuck. Let me know if you know how to get into it without breaking a nail! (6ml)

Green & Black’s White Chocolate This is a ‘lifestyle extra’ and a very nice extra too! Yum! (15g)

I do love how Birchbox always seem to manage to get a good mix of products in their beauty boxes; this one is great as it has some skincare, some make-up, some haircare, some bodycare AND some chocolate!

If you like the look of the Birchbox beauty box and want to sign up, please feel free to use my referral link:http://birchbox.co.uk/?raf=674. The box costs £10 per month plus p+p.

I’ve mentioned a couple of times over the last few months about how much my hands have suffered since having a baby. You’ll often hear new parents talk about the constant feeding and nappy changes – there is also the constant hand washing! You wash your hands before changing a nappy, you wash your hands after changing a nappy, you wash your hands before feeding, you wash your hands after feeding, you wash your hands after cleaning up some spit-up, and then you just wash your hands because you can’t remember when you last washed them, and before you know it your hands are feeling rough and dry. Well, thanks to Dettol with E45 Softness hand wash, you can now keep your hands soft and hydrated but also feel safe in the knowledge that they are also germ-free!

dettol e45 handwash honey

Dettol & E45 are two household brands that everybody knows and they have joined forces to bring you a range of hand washes that offer effective anti-bacterial protection and also pamper your skin. There are three hand washes in the new range which have all been inspired by nature: Replenishing Lotus Flower, Nourishing Honey and Comforting Camomile. All three hand washes will kill 99.9% of bacteria and remove viruses while protecting from dryness.

I’ve been trying out the Dettol with E45 Softness Nourishing Honey hand wash. I keep a bottle in my bathroom and a bottle in my kitchen, as I try to be vigilant about washing my hands before preparing food. With a 10-month old to keep an eye on as well, it’s much easier to wash my hands there and then rather than leave him in his high chair while I disappear to the bathroom!

The classic pump-dispenser bottle makes using this hand wash really easy and the light creamy honey scent lingers on your skin just enough to be pleasant but not intrusive. The design of the bottle is simple and sleek and fits well in both my bathroom and kitchen; I really hate clunky, clinical looking bottles, don’t you? Best of all, my hands don't feel remotely dry or rough despite how often I wash them, and I know they're germ-free.

Dettol with E45 Softness hand wash is available in stores nationwide including Boots and the major supermarkets, it costs £2.49 for 250ml. I have four bottles to giveaway, to two of you, so two bottles per winner! All you need to do is follow the instructions via Rafflecopter below. The giveaway is open until 11/10/13. My Dad’s girlfriend often goes abroad for work, a lot of the time she goes to New York. The last time she went I asked her if she could get one of the “I ♥ NY” tees for Baby N. I have one from when I went to New York a few years ago and adore it. Actually I have two; I got my old housemate to get me another when he went so that I had a spare. Anyway, she got him the requested tee plus some other cute clothes!

carter's baby grow us clothes haulcarter's us baby clothes haulI love NY I heart new york t shirt tee

The “I ♥ NY” tee and the grey New York tee are a few sizes up so it will be a little while before he can wear them, but the 3-piece outfit and the baby grows all fit now. They’re age 12 months and although Baby N is only 10 months he is tall for his age so he is wearing larger clothes!

I love that he has clothes that are different to other kids; in my town we only really have Next and whilst I do love their stuff, all the kids are dressed the same as we don’t have any other choice unless we drive to another town or order online. The American football details on the baby grows are adorable. I really hope Baby N is into sports when he’s older. Maybe not American football though as it looks rough and I would worry!

I’m still after a “I ♥ NY” tee, I’d like him to have a white one with black writing and red heart so he matches me. I will have to put in another order when my Dad’s girlfriend next goes to New York!

US Baby Clothing Haul

My Dad’s girlfriend often goes abroad for work, a lot of the time she goes to New York. The last time she went I asked her if she could get one of the “I ♥ NY” tees for Baby N. I have one from when I went to New York a few years ago and adore it. Actually I have two; I got my old housemate to get me another when he went so that I had a spare. Anyway, she got him the requested tee plus some other cute clothes!

I’ve been busy this week so my August Empties post is a little bit late…

August Empties

YSL Shocking MascaraThis is my second favourite mascara, behind Lancome Hypnose. It seems to dry out quite quickly though which is annoying, but I love how it looks.

Weleda Almond CleanserI had a small sample tube of this which had a couple of days worth of cleanser. It felt lovely and gentle but didn’t feel as thorough as oil or balm cleansers and I had to use a separate eye make-up remover as well. I won’t be buying it as prefer other cleansers.

Sanctuary Active Reverse 30 Day Thermal Transformation Mask – That’s such a long name for a mask! I really liked this, you can read my review here.

Inlight Organic Face CleanserAn absolutely gorgeous cleanser, I loved using this. My review is here.

L’Oreal Elvive Full Restore Replenishing MasqueI’ve used a sample of this before. It’s okay; not amazing, but does an alright job at leaving my hair feeling detangled.

Gentle Green Soothing CreamBaby N used this more than me to be honest! It’s a brilliant product, very effective. My full review can be found here.

Nivea Soft Moisturising CreamThis is a good cream for the body, I wouldn’t use it on my face though. It smells just like holidays, it has that classic “Nivea suncream” smell. A total bargain too!

Lancome Teint Miracle FoundationThis little bottle came in the Selfridges Advent Calendar I got the Christmas before last; amazingly enough the shade was perfect for me! It’s a nice foundation, I would buy it again but only if my preferred foundation (Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua!) wasn’t available.

Dead Sea Spa Magik Silky Smooth Body LotionI have had a few tubes of this stuff now and I keep changing my mind. I would probably never buy it as there are other lotions that appeal to me more.

Derma E samplesI love the cleanser from this range. I needed a separate eye make-up remover but otherwise it’s very thorough. The moisturisers I didn’t love as much, I doubt I’d buy them!

Lobster & mango salad 1

Baby N & I have been enjoying mangoes this summer, they have become a favourite since he started weaning. I was looking for ideas for using mango in a salad and read that it works really well with seafood. We thought why not push the boat out and try lobster! It’s the first time I have ever cooked lobster myself; although this recipe only uses the tail I still felt a little squeamish when handling it raw. It was worth persevering though as it was so incredibly delicious.

Mangoes are such slippery little rascals and I always find them a total pain to cut. Fortunately OXO have come to my rescue with their amazing Mango Splitter from their Good Grips range. It now takes me mere seconds and I’m left with two perfect mango halves. Best invention ever!
