I posted the other day about some Lush goodies that the Mister brought back from his trip to France last week. One of the lovely products he got me was the Dragon’s Egg Bath Bomb, known as L’oeuf du dragon in France. I tried it yesterday and, ooohh, it was lovely. Look what happened to my bath!

The white bath bomb is huge, you could crack it half and make it last for two baths but I was feeling sorry for myself (I’ve been poorly) so thought I’d treat myself and chucked the whole thing in.

As you can see from the photo it has lots of coloured confetti in it. The bath bomb starts fizzing and producing a lot of white foam as it disperses the confetti; sadly the confetti melts straight away which is a shame as I think it would look quite pretty if it didn’t!

After a minute or so the foam starts to turn peach, then masses of orange colour explodes out of it turning the bath water orange too. Finally, with the crackling sound of popping candy, golden glitter is released leaving a big shimmering swirl in the bath water.

This scrummy bath bomb is scented with lemon oil and jasmine, which to me ends up smelling like sticky oranges with a floral hint. It smells divine, so lovely that I didn’t bother using body lotion or perfume afterwards as I didn’t want to taint it!

Lush Dragon’s Egg costs £3.20 and you can get at least two baths out of it if you wanted. I know some people think Lush bath bombs are expensive; if you were to use them every day then yes I suppose they would be but I tend to consider them treats and save them for when I feel like pampering myself. I always ask for Lush products at Christmas and birthdays!

What do you think of this bath bomb? Don't forget to enter my beauty box giveaway, it ends tomorrow!

The Mister went to France for a meeting last week and while he was on the phone to me he mentioned that he was outside a Lush store and asked me if I wanted anything. Of course I said yes!

I wanted a Mermaid Bath Ballistic but they didn’t have them, so instead I asked for a Dragon's Egg Bath Bomb (called L’oeuf du dragon in France) and a Twilight Bath Bomb (called, err, Twilight in France). They put a little sample pot of Grass Shower Gel in the bag too. I can’t wait to try everything!

My friend Lauren and I went to Hermitage Rd. Bar & Restaurant in Hitchin for brunch on Sunday. I posted about their coffee bar the other day, which is one of the top 50 according to The Independent, and last year I posted about their amazing Sunday roast. Lauren and I had been for Sunday roast last month when we spotted their yummy looking brunch menu, so we booked a table.

Hermitage Rd Bar Restaurant Sunday Brunch menu

I love menus like this – just the right number of dishes. Too much choice overwhelms me! I chose the cheese on toast with wild mushrooms, spinach and duck egg. Lauren chose the same, but she swapped the duck egg for bacon and wanted everything separate on the plate. She also didn’t want a lot of cheese. The waitress was lovely and was happy to accommodate all this. I think mine looks better, do you agree? For drinks we had a glass of orange juice each, I had a pot of tea and Lauren had a latte.

Our bill came to £18, which is such a steal for two big dishes and four drinks. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely, really relaxed. Even Baby N got to sample a bit of my cheese on toast – can you believe he is nearly 7 months old? The time is going so quickly! I noticed that there were a few others with babies and small children, it seems that Sunday brunch is a lot more family friendly than Sunday lunch.

I can’t wait to go back to Hermitage Rd. Bar & Restaurant again for brunch, I’ve asked Ian if we can go this weekend. I’d quite like to try the baked eggs, although I’d be tempted to try one of the other variations of cheese on toast. Yum!

I recently showed you what daily facial skincare products I am currently using. One of those products was Moa The Green Balm, a multi-purpose balm that I am using as a cleanser. It forms part of this Moa Daily Cleansing Ritual containing a bamboo face cloth and a 50ml pot of The Green Balm.

Moa The Green Balm Daily Cleansing RitualMoa The Green Balm Daily Cleansing Ritual cleanserMoa The Green Balm Daily Cleansing Ritual hot bamboo cloth cleanserMoa The Green Balm Daily Cleansing Ritual clothMoa The Green Balm Daily Cleansing Ritual instructionsMoa The Green Balm Daily Cleansing Ritual ingredients

Made entirely from natural ingredients this balm has so many uses. It soothes dry skin, calms burns and bites, works as a lip balm, can be gargled with hot water to aid a sore throat, can be used as a pre-shampoo treatment on your hair, moisturise your cuticles - the list is endless!

I’ve been using it simply as a hot cloth cleanser. The Daily Cleansing Ritual comes with a face cloth made out of luxuriously soft bamboo material. I take a blob of balm, warm it between my palms and then massage it all over my face. It has an unusual smell, it smells faintly like petrol if I’m completely honest! It’s not offensive though, just unexpected.

The instructions for use mention melting it between fingertips to create an oil but it never turns oily for me, it stays as quite a greasy feeling balm. I always feel like I need to wash my hands with soap before making a start with the cloth! The cleansing cloth isn’t the best; as the balm is quite greasy you need a cloth with quite good grip and this bamboo cloth just doesn’t cut it. A flannel or muslin cloth works much better. Bamboo is also such an absorbent material that it feels so heavy with water!

Aside from my issues with the cloth and the greasiness of the balm, it does make a really good cleanser. It gets pretty much all of my make-up off including my (non-waterproof) mascara, I rarely need to use a separate eye make-up remover and it leaves my skin feeling soft and refreshed. I think that the cloth could be better, especially when it effectively costs £5.00. That’s a lot for a face cloth!

Moa The Green Balm is £9.99 for 50ml and the Daily Cleansing Ritual contains a 50ml pot of The Green Balm and a bamboo face cloth for £14.99. Both can be bought here www.thegreenbalm.com.

My May beauty box from Birchbox arrived on Friday. I didn’t post about my April box as it got lost so a second was sent. By the time it arrived it was weeks after everyone else’s so I didn’t see the point in posting about it. Plus some of the contents were things I’d had in previous boxes, rather than the proper April products, so it was a bit disappointing. This month though I am a happy bunny again.

Red Carpet Ready is the theme of the May beauty box from Birchbox; here’s what I got in mine:

OPI Nail Lacquer Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI NLH55 – From The Holland collection, this miniature 3.75ml nail polish is a pretty plum shade with a rose gold shimmer running through it. Pretty!

Elemental Herbology Cell Plumping Facial Hydrator – I literally just ran out of my Yon-Ka Pamplemousse so the timing of this could not be better! Smells fab and scrummy looking natural ingredients. It’s a 30ml tube.

B/Attitude Body Soufflé – This is a new brand to me. This soufflé smells gorgeous, rich and luxurious. I can’t wait to try it. It’s a 50ml tub.

Makebelieve Enhance Luminize Skin Highlighter – I’ve never tried anything from this make-up range before. This looks pretty and will be fab in the summer for enhancing a tan. It’s full-size 2.5g.

Doctor Duve Anti-Aging & Firming Eye Cream – This is a ‘beauty extra’. Eye creams are totally on my radar at the moment as sleep is something I’m not getting much of and it shows around my eyes! These two sample sachets are very much appreciated this month!

Kusmi Detox Tea – This is a ‘lifestyle extra’. I actually already have one of these 20g tins from a previous beauty box when Birchbox was known as Boudoir Prive or Joliebox, I can’t remember which. I’m ashamed to say my other tin is still sitting in my kitchen cupboard. I will try it!

Also included was a little leaflet from Breakthrough Breast Cancer which shows how to quickly check your breasts. I’ve included it above so you can all go and check yours. Go on, do it now!

Throughout May Birchbox are donating 30% of e-shop sales to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer as well as donating £5 for every friend referral so please feel free to use my referral link: http://birchbox.co.uk/?raf=674. Birchbox beauty box costs £10 per month plus p+p.

What do you think of this month’s box? I really like it and am very impressed with Birchbox raising awareness of breast cancer and their support for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

In my hometown of Hitchin, there is a coffee bar that was recently reviewed in The Independent 50 best coffee shops. I’ve been to Hermitage Rd. Bar & Restaurant for meals several times but had never ventured into their coffee bar. After Lexi tweeted about their amazing salted caramel cookies I decided to get my decaf mocha there instead of Starbucks for a change – and so I could try the cookie!

Hermitage Rd bar restaurant HitchinHermitage Road coffee bar HitchinHermitage Rd coffee bar HitchinHermitage Rd coffee bar menu Hitchin

My coffee was very carefully made in full view not hidden behind the machine. It wasn’t as chocolatey as I normally like my mocha to be but it was a lovely coffee and went hand-in-hand with the delicious chewy salted caramel cookie from The Fine Cookie Co. My coffee was £2.50, the cookie was £1.50.

Pricewise it’s a teensy bit more expensive than Starbucks where I usually go but Hermitage Rd. has a loyalty card to make sure it doesn’t lose your business to Starbucks, Costa or Caffe Nero which are all minutes away. Every seventh coffee (or tea) is free. I like free.

I do like Hermitage Rd. It’s a gorgeous looking restaurant and the food is fantastic. However, the last time I went for Sunday lunch my friend and I were really disappointed in the service we received. I’m popping in again on Sunday for brunch, hopefully it will be better.

This is my new favourite dinner! It’s easy to prepare, quick to cook, healthy and, most importantly, absolutely delicious! I saw the recipe on Waitrose’s website but I tweaked it slightly.

20130426_214548

This serves 2 and the ingredients you need are:
  • 2 sea bass fillets
  • 2 pak choi, quartered
  • 2 large spring onions, sliced
  • thumb-sized piece of ginger, cut into matchsticks
  • 2 tbsp. fish stock
  • 1 tbsp. light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil

Preheat your oven to 220°C. Arrange your pak choi in a roasting tin. Place your sea bass fillets on top, skin side up. Drizzle the fish stock and the light soy sauce over the fish. Sprinkle over the sliced spring onions and ginger. Cover with a piece of foil and pop in the oven for 15 minutes.

Heat the olive oil in a pan and pour it over the cooked fish; the onions and the skin of the sea bass will go slightly crispy. Your dish is now ready to serve; we have it with basmati rice. Make sure you drizzle the juices from the roasting tin over the fish once served so you don’t lose a single drop of yumminess!

Enjoy!
